Lionel Camus, Senior Researcher and Coordinator of Environment and Petroleum at Akvaplan-niva recently published an article in the Pan European Networks online Science and Technology publication.
The potential issues for future oil and gas development in the Arctic, specifically in areas of sea ice, are not well understood and more knowledge is needed to understand what is required from the industry to mitigate against such problems.
In response, the International Association of Oil and Gas Producers (OGP) launched the Arctic Response Technology Joint Industry Programme with the objectives to enhance knowledge on Arctic oil spill capabilities, advance Arctic oil spill response strategies and equipment and to increase understanding of potential impacts of oil on the Arctic marine environment.
As a part of the JIP, the OGP has enlisted an international team (Norway, France, the Netherlands, Canada, USA and Russia), led by Akvaplan-niva.
The Pan European Networks provide relevant up to date scientific and educational news and aim to provide leading figures from across Europe the opportunity to discuss current and future projects, policy change and problematic issues within science, technology, education, health, defence and wider governance.
