Environmental monitoring and resource surveys

Monitoring of man-made impacts to benthos, sediments, water, as well as monitoring of natural variation in marine ecosystems are key activities in Akvaplan-niva. We continuously work on developing new monitoring methods and procedures, and adapt procedures to Arctic environmental conditions. Akvaplan-niva participates in developing and updating national and international monitoring standards (e.g. ISO).

Akvaplan-niva designs and carries out monitoring programmes and services related to a range of human activities, including offshore petroleum exploration and exploitation, long range and local contaminant discharges, sewage outfall, aquaculture, discharges from mining operations and landfills.
